We're down to the last week before our club's 2004
National Convention to be held May 27-29, 2004 in
Ontario, California. Our convention this year is being held in
conjunction with the ATHS (American
Truck Historical Society) 2004 National Convention. Our model
show and awards banquet is being held in the same hotel hosting
the ATHS group. This event presents an extraordinary opportunity
to see the best of the 1/87 vehicle modeling world and over 1,200
antique and historic trucks on display at the California Motor
Speedway. Your convention registration entitles you to complimentary
shuttle bus service from the convention hotel to the speedway
complex where the truck show is being held and admission to the
truck show.
Like our very successful convention and show in Allentown
last year, we'll again be holding a Friday evening New Products Press
Conference, Saturday Model Contest & Display,
and Saturday night awards banquet and presentation. We'd like to
emphasize that we invite all attending to bring models to display
even if you do not wish to participate in the model contest. Convention
chairperson Joe D'Elia has worked very hard to put this convention
together and has packaged a very affordable convention registration
and attractive schedule of activities with the ATHS convention. We
want to thank Joe for all his hard work and look forward to seeing
many of you in Ontario! Watch this space for more information in
the coming days.
If you are an ATHS member be sure to check for our
convention advertisement appearing in the March issue of "Wheels
Of Time." A small copy of the ad artwork is shown above. We
really owe our club Route
1-87 newsletter editor, Bill Cawthon, a big "thank
you" for cranking out this great looking ad at a moment's notice
(literally!)!
We've had a couple of inquiries about a Family Registration
rate and ATHS member registrations for folks who are attending the
ATHS convention. We've added a special Family Early Registration
rate of $90.00 ($75.00 if you register before April 1, 2004) that
will gain admission to every member of your immediate family to all
club functions and the ATHS truck show except the banquet.
The Family Registration plan admits only one member
of the family to the awards banquet on Saturday night. However, additional
family members may be admitted to the awards banquet for a fee of
$40.00 each. This is the club's cost for the meal, tax, and gratuity
for the banquet.
For ATHS members who are registered for the ATHS convention,
there's no additional charge to attend the Friday evening New Product
press conference and "show and tell" or Saturday Model
Contest & Display. However, if you wish to attend the
Saturday evening awards banquet you will need to purchase a banquet
meal admission ticket at the price of $40.00 for each attendee.
