Sheepscot Scale Products is releasing two more HO scale truck kits, International cab-over-engine 400 series in both day cab and sleeper. These trucks are generally referred to today as “Emeryvilles" or “high binders.” More specifically, the kit is for a RDFC-405, R for the R series cab, D for diesel, F for six wheels, C for cab-over, 400 for the series, 05 for a tractor. A cast urethane frame is set for 145” wheelbase to which the two cylindrical fuel tanks are attached. Cast metal parts include: fifth wheel, muffler and stack, and fog lights under the bumper. Kit No. 95124 has the day cab and the usual Sheepscot cast metal 11.00-20 tires on spoke wheels. Kit No. 95125 has the sleeper cab and 10.00-20 disk wheels.

This configuration of cab was introduced by International in 1950 and allowed the use of 35 foot semi trailers while keeping the overall length to the 45 foot restriction. The Cummins diesel was under the cab and tilted slightly to the right so the cab floor was flat. Fenders were hinged on the front end and swung out to provide for servicing the engine on the prototype. The kits will be available by mid December 2003. [posted 12/01/2003]
