The basis for each of these classic Chevrolet pickups is the original
2 ton stake bed from Alloy Forms. The ½ ton pick up truck cabs
came from 2 AF junk car bags. One cab was quite decent, but the other
had a big hole in the hood – a
perfect start for the 1958/59 truck which needed a severe hood modification.
I sliced the front fenders with a hack saw to make them narrower, then
filled the fender well with body putty and carved out the correct size.
The grilles are brass, on the ’59 with 2 thin wires soldered
in place. The chassis is made from 1/16” square brass tubing.
The beds are brass sheet and the rear fenders are carved from solid
PVC. The wheels
are machined
from solid brass and pressed on axles on order to turn freely. Another
photo of the 1957 version appeared in Photo
Gallery 126.
