This model of a 1925 Walter Tank Truck takes its inspiration from
an illustration found in a reprint of an out of print book, "Handbook
of Automobiles 1925-1926". This model is almost completely scratch
built. The cab and chassis were made of styrene and brass
and the fuel tank was made of plastic tubing and sheet
styrene. Wheels were custom made for this model using 1/2
inch tubing for the tires cut down and file shaped to a scale 40" in
diameter; 3/8" tubing was used for the rims, and the centers of the
front wheels were built up with styrene. The centers of the back
wheels were cut from the rear wheels of a Jordan Mack Truck and epoxied
into the smaller rims. This model was then painted with Humbrol
paints and weathered with dry colors and chalk. A total of 18
hours went into its construction as the wheels took one whole day
to make.
