This model of an early off road Hewitt Coal Truck was built from scratch
in the late 1970's. Based on an illustration found in the book, "Trucks
and Vans" by Bishop/Marshall, the model was constructed with styrene
and scale lumber, painted by hand, and weathered with dry colors and
chalk. The front wheels are modified metal castings, but the rear wheels
are slightly larger and were built up using plastic tubing and strip
styrene. The 1909 Hewitt was a large truck for its day able to carry
ten tons of cargo.
