Promoting Excellence in HO Scale Vehicle Modeling

GMC Astro & Christmas Tree Load - By Fritz & Tim Dahlin

First Place - Holiday Scene

Fritz Dahlin explained his scene, "It is the day before Thanksgiving and the first snow of the year has brought out the plows. A truckload of Christmas trees is rolling down Rt 22 in central Pennsylvania, headed for a metropolitan market."

The modeling is the work of Fritz and his 10 year old son, Tim. Tim built the diorama base, painted it and did the basic ground cover. He also helped "clean" the tree armatures and he made the Christmas trees. Fritz built the truck and trailer, which is a Lindberg cab on a Athearn chassis, wheels by Alloy Forms, mirrors by A-Line. The trailer is basically a stock Lindberg with scratchbuilt side boards. The diorama is foam sheets covered with sifted real dirt, poly fiber and ground foam. The trees are Scenic Express without foliage. The snow is sifted flour. The Christmas trees are craft store pipe cleaners drawn through a puddle of white glue and shaped to look like trees that have been wrapped up.
