Will Blackburn's story concerning his model, "This is a project that came to life during a winter fit of boredom in 2004 and since nobody produces a Cavalier in 1/87 I thought why not do it myself? The idea was also inspired by my trusty daily driver, a Cavalier in the same color. A Herpa Opel Omega sedan was used as a base, disassembled and stripped of all small parts and paint. The front bumper was carefully removed and a new one formed of Evergreen styrene stock along with the original rear taillight openings being filled in. Then various minor filling and molding was done and the hood between the headlights extended down. Then the side moldings were removed, rear end roof and bumper rounded to match the prototype, wheel wells enlarged/rounded out, air dams front and back shortened. Then came primer and sanding on top of which three coats of original GM Hawaiian Orchid Metallic (used in 1995 & '96) and 2 clear coats were applied. Interior was painted gray and black as in the prototype. The Herpa headlights were reinstalled since they are of a very similar shape to the the prototype. The taillight decals will made on my computer with white decal paper as a finishing touch." Quite a project and some outstanding result!
