First-time contributor Simon Farac from Auckland, New Zealand built this model as a present for a good friend of his family who also builds and collects model trucks. Simon started with the Promotex/Herpa Kenworth. He stripped all the paint off and painted it green and white. The family friend has painted some of his models in this paint scheme, a combination of his favorite colors. After painting was completed Simon started the detailing. He painted all of the lights, door handles, and air vents on the sleeper and added Plano Model Products Kenworth T600 mirrors to the cab. He then modified the chassis by cutting away the rear tail light bar and painting the visible part of the chassis orange with added Plano rear tail lights and mud flaps. To finish off the tractor unit Simon drilled the holes in the wheels to make them look more realistic and also added his own custom "KW" decal on the front.
The trailer is a Norscot Trail King Lowboy painted orange and then with Simon's usual detail painting of the marker lights and tail lights. He changed out the wheels for Promotex low profile wheels and tires and drilled out the holes to make them look more realistic. To finish off the trailer he applied Lonestar laser cut wood on the deck. Simon says that although this is the first time he's submitted a model to our website he has been viewing the galleries for many years getting inspiration. Posted April 18, 2014 |
