This very impressive Euclid R-45 dump truck is all the more impressive because it was built from an old 'Puget Sound Castings' resin kit with many refinements by E. Oswald Strohmei. Besides the extensive use of body putty and sanding paper, details like the railing on the right side of the cab, some hand grabs, and new door handles all made from wire were added. On both sides, new cab ladders with small styrene plates for the steps as well as steps on each end of the front bumper had to be mounted to match the real truck. The solid pattern of the grille protector was cut out and replaced by wire mesh. On the driver's side a steering rod and a gear housing made from wire and styrene were mounted above the fender. Two N-scale barrels were converted to air filters and mounted on both sides of the hood. Because the included wheels were inadequate, E.O. purchased two of the International Hobbies generic grader models to use for their wheels which had the right dimensions for the Euclid and, additionally, a more authentic profile and tread. The decal of the Euclid logo on the dump body was made on his computer, the numbers and Euclid lettering are leftovers from other kits.
